Friday Rants and Raves - March 28

Hello all! I skipped last week but now I'm back and I want to hear how everyone is doing.

This week's picture is by Viktor Safonkin. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a title but I love the picture so I'm showing it anyway.

I finished my story for the Streets of Shadows antho, and subbed it. I think it's one of the best things I've written to date, and it hit every note I wanted to hit and crammed a lot into 3900 words.

I have two stories coming out next week: one from Deepwood Publishing (Monday) and another from Unlikely Story (Tuesday).

I don't recall if I mentioned that my Clockwork Necromancer story was accepted by Deepwood for their "Death God's Chosen" anthology, but that one will be coming out at the end of May.

So, it's been a pretty good week! :D

I like that pic! I did a bit of image searching and saw it called "Forcing the rain cloud". But the site was in Russian, which I don't read, so, you know.

This week I did a bit of outlining for a rewrite of my completed draft, and then got distracted, mostly by rambling about it at a professor friend of mine. But the rambling led me to later make a connection on an entirely unrelated story that I'm also working on, which sorts out trouble in my background so neatly that I did a little dance in my chair when I figured it out.

And today I knocked out a quick fanfiction for someone as a move-in present, I just haven't typed it yet.

My mom has been here (in Tokyo) for the week (visiting from Cape Cod), so I've had almost no time to write, but I've been thinking over what I might do for Camp NaNoWriMo this coming month and I did manage to squeeze in time for a (very short) ficlet for a [livejournal.com profile] writerverse challenge. I'm starting to play (again) in a 'verse I pick up and put down constantly, which is exciting but also exhausting because the story has so much baggage for me.

I was almost like, "Wow, someone in Tokyo, I used to..." then I realized who you are. :D Nice to see you here. And good luck with Camp NaNoWriMo! I want to do it, but I've already managed to find a good balance working on my current original fic while juggling work with crazy hours, so I'd rather wait until I want to start a new project. Maybe by next November, fingers crossed.

I'm working, because my agency begged me to take a job I'd already said I wouldn't take. :( And I have this paper to write, too. I hate how bad I am at saying "no," and how I allow people to walk all over my "no."

I don't really know what to do with myself while I'm waiting for draft feedback. I started working on a new idea earlier this week but by Thursday that trailed off. I'm about to make myself write a 20 minute prompt just to get something down. There's always a bit of a rough patch in between things.

Ah, yeah, that's the hard part. I find that things go in cycles, myself.

I've been using Scrivener, as someone recommended here, and have been loving it so much. It's really helped my writing a lot, I think, because I'm so visual and being able to see all my "chapters" and organize the book before all the parts are even written has helped me conceptualize it better.

The formatting is the only wonky part. Not that it's bad, I just copy pasted things from Open Office, so certain things, like hyphens, are different sizes, and the tabs are different, and I get confused on how to customize technical stuff like that. Still, yay, writing!
