Friday Rants and Raves - February 28

Friday again already? And it's already the end of February? Wow.

Anyway, how is everyone? I hope you've had a more productive week than I have.

This week's picture is called The Difficult Reply by Guy Rose. I have way too many pictures of people reading or writing letters. They're great starting points for me.

Bit better than last week, yeah. No huge catastrophes interrupting my writing at least. And I'm going to have a fair amount of the weekend to myself to do even more writing, so there's that. I'm on the final scene of one story that I've had backburned for much, muuuuuch too long. It'll be nice to put it to bed and move on to the next.

That's always an exciting place for me to be. So close to the end. By the time I get there I always feel like I'm running downhill.

Pretty picture! I like to imagine that's how I look when I'm writing.

Except I'm usually in a weird half-on-the-couch-half-not position with limbs all over, wearing sweatpants and no bra, shoving coffee or tea in my face, and defending my keyboard from wandering cats.

But I digress.

Still trying to balance my new job with writing time, but getting better at it. I had one dud day when I got set up to write but just couldn't get more than three sentences out... blah. But the next day, I was a lot more inspired, so maybe that made up for it.

Inspiration is a tricky thing. I try not to depend on it so I spend a few minutes writing each day whether I feel like it or not and see if I warm up to it. But if it's just not working for me then I don't force it. There are always other times that make up for it.

I forgot to answer my own question.

As I mentioned above, I haven't been very productive. I was in a knitting and crocheting mood for a little while and then I was in a reading mood. But I think now I'm entering one of my moods where I'm better at balancing all my hobbies. I feel more motivated to do some writing and I feel less like spending all my time doing one thing.

I've psuedo-outlined (descriptions of action, with diversions to prose if I actually have the prose for that scene) a fanfiction that I'm still vaguely amazed that I started at all, did the same thing for the sequel with some notes of "and I don't know what happens here" and even an idea for a third.

I also typed up a bit of a random werewolf story I started a while back and then got bored of.

What pairings?

Sephiroth focused, 'round about pre-Crisis Core but I haven't sorted out some of the timeline issues, to say nothing of the "and then everyone dies" part. First bit is going to a sort of amorphous Sephiroth/Genesis/Angeal. Second bit is primarily Sephiroth/Cloud. And I think there'll be Zack/Aeris referenced.

So basically it's most of the things in the ff7 canon that you hate. Sorry.

Honestly, I wanted Zack to be collared by Aeris, and it be a tiny pink ribbon. Because Aeris dommes the hell out of basically everyone.

Now this, this we can definitely agree on! Aeris dommes pretty much everyone I pair her with. Except maybe Tseng, their sex would be too angsty and love!hate to be kinky.

*nodnod* Of course, this is a directedverse!AU, so, kink by definition. but I'm going to go into the social ramifications of that and how just because sexuality is different doesn't mean that people aren't stupid.

I have just over two chapters to go for my second draft, it's getting so close! Just last night I figured out how to wrap the scene I've been a little stuck on. Things are definitely going well.

What are your plans for it once you've finished revising?

I'm making a list of friends I'd like to be readers (some of which hopefully will be able to be timely about it) to get broad feedback and then I'll determine my next edits from that. The eventual next step is to start querying agents, but the whole thing has to be ready for submission at that point, and since I've never gotten this far before I don't know how many rounds of edits it'll need before I feel like it's ready.
