Is anyone interested in a roundup of calls for subs?

I'm working on an urban fantasy crime story I'm super-serious about for this (pays six cents a word) and something silly for this (pays five cents a word).

Also, Writers of the Future has a rolling quarterly deadline. Do not be put off by the "L Ron Hubbard" part; I personally know several writers who have launched careers by winning this thing, and the judges have impeccable credentials. Plus the paycheck, if you win, is pretty spiffy.

Deepwood Publishing wants necromancy stories; I can attest that they pay promptly. This one pays a penny a word.

This one is quite specific and really intriguing, but I'm not sure I have the chops for it. One of you might, though! Pays five cents a word, and the deadline isn't until October.

On the Premises is running their new contest.

Lightspeed Magazine is opening their Women Destroy Fantasy issue to subs on the 15th.

I try to poke through Ralan's once a month or so, and my Twitter feed generally keeps me abreast of new upcoming projects. So if anyone's interested, I can do this on a semi-regular basis. :)

Hey, this is really cool! I might do one or two myself - somehow the thought of doing this feels less stressful than my big bangs. It would be amazing if you could this more regularly too!

Way less stressful than Big Bangs, really, because you have a lower word count to hit!

I'll try to remember to do this every once in awhile. If I don't, feel free to poke me. I have a Firefox window explicitly for fiction subs.

I'll try to remember. My Twitter feed is a goldmine of information, and with all the stories I'm constantly trying to find homes for, I'm fairly well up on who's looking for what.

Oooh yes! This reminds me, I have to renew my duotrope subscription (I recommend an account here to everyone, I think they have a free trial period). I have a few to add if that's okay:

Storm Moon Press has a few Anthology calls for mostly gay/lesbian/bi erotica/romance.

Daily Science Fiction is pretty much rolling, I think. And Lightspeed has a sister magazine for Horror, called Nightmare.

I use the Submission Grinder, which has the vast advantage of being completely free. I used to swear by Duotrope's until they went pay-only.

We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to short fiction markets in the SFF genre: F&SF, Asimov's, and Analog, of course, along with Lightspeed, Nightmare, and DSF. Then there's Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, LORE, Buzzy, IGMS, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Tor.com, Shimmer... And those are just the pro-paying markets.

Really, if you're writing and not subbing... why? There are so many markets!

Right now I'm still in the "I can't finish anything" stage. But I still like to see what's out there and try to aim for what's marketable. I might be making my first submission very soon, but I need to edit it a lot.

The one for Dark Regions Press looks right up my alley and I would love to submit something for Women Destroy Fantasy.

They're doing a Women Destroy Horror as well, and I think the Women Destroy SF issue is still open for subs, but don't hold me to that.

I'll see what I can do to keep this up. :)
